Ronald E. Crawford was born on the family homestead in Holt County Nebraska. In a one-room schoolhouse he managed, with some difficulty to complete his eighth grade education but cowboy life was calling, him. As early as nine years old, Ron was working on cattle drives for family and local ranchers. At the age of 13, he broke his first horse, a nine-year-old mare that had been used as a work horse. He once bull dogged a jack rabbit and at the age of 16 he had his first official job working for L.D. Putnam, a neighbor in Holt County. He then worked at a cattle ranch in South Dakota before he was called to join the Army. While in the Army he tried bull riding at an amateur rodeo, a sport he took part in through his life. He spent 10 years in the National Senior Old Timers Rodeo. In 1961 he moved to Riverton. He worked for Bernice Salts out of Casper, did a stint as a range detective riding for Midvale Grazing Association, worked for the Quarter Circle Five Ranch in Daniel, cowboyed for other ranches in central Wyoming, and worked many years at the Riverton Sale Barn. Ron is a self-taught farrier.
