Kenneth Norris Graves grew up on the Norris family homestead ranch, 25 miles from Kaycee. His grandfather, Frank Graves, purchased the homestead in 1908 and six generations of the Graves family have been living and ranching on it for 113 years. At age eight, Ken and his cousin Dan Fraker, age seven, were sent to the mountain to herd the sheep on their own for a week at a time. Ken later was a great bronc rider and enjoyed teaching his nephews. Ken attended Casper College but returned home every weekend to work the ranch with his dad. Cheri Yvonne Landrey was born July 1, 1951, to Roland and Beverly Landrey in Buffalo. Cheri grew up on a ranch south of Arvada on the Powder River. Cheri attended Chadron State College in Nebraska and graduated with a double major in math and earth science. She then taught school in Pine Bluffs and spent her summers helping her parents and digging at archaeological sites across the US. After their marriage Ken and Cheri took over leadership of the ranch in 1983 from Ken’s dad. For the last 40 years they have worked side by side on the ranch running the Red Angus herd Cheri’s parents started in 1961.
